Ricky graduated from Georgia Tech in 2020 with a degree in Computer Science. As a final project in college, he created an app that detects how often people glance at their cellphones while driving and alerts them if they’re taking their eyes off the road too much. He currently works as an Analyst at Goldman Sachs, in the Financial Planning and Analysis division, helping develop application software.

K12 Green Fund

Alexia Alejos, Karina Alejos, Joe Pivaral

Hoping to inspire other students to start their own eco-friendly initiatives, Alexia, Karina, and Joe set out to raise funds to install solar panels in their high school’s library. As one of their main projects while at Wings, they quoted prices, partnered with a local company, worked on and learned about the installation process, and were able to calculate potential energy and cost reductions for the school. After raising money through GoFundMe, they got their school to approve their project and match their contribution in order to purchase the panels.

NavTech + ROBOX

Paulina Romero

When she started at Wings, Paulina had already worked on a prototype for NavTech, a device meant to help visually impaired people navigate unknown environments by warning them of nearby objects through sounds or vibrations. During her time at Wings, she continued to perfect and develop the device while also starting ROBOX, a project that offered robotics classes to high school students who later visited low-resource public schools to donate robotics kits and teach other students what they had learned. During this time, she was also accepted into a prestigious Columbia University SHAPE summer program focused on Biomedical Engineering, her intended major.

She’s continued to sell and promote the product successfully and has even received offers from local delis and grocery stores who wish to sell her granola.

E-Commerce Sales

Gabriel Gandara

During the first months of the pandemic, Gabriel quickly noticed a boom in e-commerce. As he brainstormed ideas with his counselor about how to make the most of his summer while also learning about business (his main area of interest), he arrived at the idea of creating a new e-commerce sales channel within his family’s food manufacturing and distribution business. His counselor at Wings put him in touch with an E-commerce Sales Manager who gave him a crash course on how to pitch his products to online businesses and provided him with a list of contacts he could reach out to, as well as Excel templates he could use to present the details of the products. Gabriel finished his summer having established agreements with three separate e-commerce sites. He was proud to have acquired valuable experience while contributing to his family business in a tangible way.
